HOW MIDDLE EASTERN COOKS DO IT.

If you're a fan of za'atar (like us) you'll know that it comes in dozens of regional variations across the Middle East that take the classic thyme-sumac-sesame seed combo and make it even more awesome with additional spices. 

This Syrian Za'atar has all the classic ingredients (hyssop, marjoram, sumac and sesame seeds) with earthy, savoury elements from coriander seeds & cumin and sweet floral notes of fennel, aniseed and cassia cinnamon. 

This well rounded blend is really diverse and will have you covered for grilled chicken, lamb roast, hummous plates, eggs and everything in between.  

Flavours

Fragrant and herbaceous with tart & nutty notes and a complex earthy aroma.

Great with

  • Perfect as a fish, lamb or chicken marinade - mix 1 teaspoon of Syrian Za'atar with 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil for every 450g of meat or fish.
  • Elevate grilled chicken, roasted veggies or lamb roast.  
  • Rub white fish fillets with some olive oil and za'atar before searing.
  • Mix a couple of teaspoons of Syrian Za'atar with olive oil to form a paste. Spread over pitta bread and bake in the oven on 180c for 10-15 mins.
