"Carne Asada" means grilled meat in Spanish and a well known traditional Mexican dish of, you guessed it, beef (specifically skirt or flank steak) very thinly sliced and cooked fast over a very hot grill, then put in a tacos, tortillas or burritos and served with grilled onions and a spicy Mexican salsa.
In southern California, carne asada is hugely popular and you can find it at street food carts. They stuff fresh warm tacos with juicy, straight off the grill carne asada sometimes served with queso, onions or sliced avocado and lime. On our travels in Mexico we had carne asada the traditional way - and no less delicious - simply served with spicy beans and rice - a great combo for a super satisfying meal. This bright and spicy mix combines the two most popular chillis used in Mexican cuisine - Ancho chilli and Guajillo chilli at the base combined with eight other spices - from the earthy cumin and coriander seeds balanced by some grassy oregano, a touch of acidity from onion and garlic and sweet, fruity undertones of cloves and aniseed. This blend is great as a BBQ rub or marinade for fish, seafood, meat, vegetables or poultry.
