SUNNY, CITRUSY & EARTHY.
BRIGHTEN UP YOUR CURRIES, RICE, NOODLES, ROASTED VEG & FRIED MEATS.
Turmeric has been used by Asian cooks for thousands of years. It's a member of the ginger family and grows wild in the warm and wet forests of Southeast Asia. The roots are harvested annually and ground into a fabulously vibrant golden, orange-yellow powder that adds warmth and colour to all kinds of rice, noodles, curries and soups. It's also known for its medicinal properties and has been used in India for nearly 4,000 years and in medieval times was used as an alternative to the more expensive saffron and called "Indian Saffron" by European explorers.
Pungent with a citrusy aroma and notes of pepper and mustard. Turmeric is a mellow spice with a slight bitterness that disappears in cooking. It brings lots of character and brightness to the table. Especially in Indian, Vietnamese, Middle Eastern and Persian dishes (think curries, soups and rice) where it lends a beautiful yellow-orange hue and a distinct earthy flavour. It's also a powerful anti-inflammatory spice that's great in smoothies or lattes.
